Sports Participation Fee Eliminated

Great news for families of students who play sports at West Valley's schools! Thanks to the recently passed levy, WVSD is now able to remove the fee for participating in athletics, better known as ‘Pay to Play.’
The District truly believes activities are part of the educational experience, and families should not be burdened financially for participating in these activities. “Previously, this fee was $75 per student, per sport, and some of the fees we believe kept students from turning out and enjoying or trying new things. We don’t want that to be the case any longer, and we think this will give students the ability to discover their passion without financial barriers,” says Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations, Joe Connolly.
Now, all students have greater access and opportunity to take part in after-school activities in West Valley. The new change will go into effect starting in the fall of the 2022/23 school year.

¡Excelentes noticias para familias de estudiantes que practican deportes en las escuelas de West Valley! Gracias al impuesto que se aprobó hace poco, WVSD ahora puede eliminar la cuota por participar en deportes, mejor conocido como ‘Paga por jugar’.
El Distrito cree sinceramente que las actividades forman parte de la experiencia educativa, y que no se debe imponer a las familias una carga económica por participar en estas actividades. “Anteriormente, esta cuota era de $75 por estudiante, por deporte, y algunas de las cuotas que creemos que impedía que los estudiantes salieran y disfrutaran o intentaran cosas nuevas. No queremos que ese sea el caso por más tiempo, y creemos que esto dará a los estudiantes la capacidad de descubrir su pasión sin barreras financieras,” afirma Joe Connolly, subdirector de Operaciones Comerciales.
Ahora, todos los estudiantes tienen mayor acceso y oportunidad de participar en actividades extraescolares en West Valley. El nuevo cambio entrará en vigor a partir del otoño del año escolar 2022/23.
