Operational Procedures- Gender Inclusive Schools

Apr 15, 2022

For many years, the West Valley School District has followed Washington State laws for anti-discrimination related to gender identity and the use of public restrooms. Students have access to public restrooms at school based on their gender identity. All students have access to a private restroom in the school office.

For full transparency with our parents, students, and community, the District is developing policy and procedures that will be aligned with Washington State laws related to anti-discrimination. The policy and procedures will be fully transparent and will assist the District to communicate our compliance with Washington State laws.

The timeline for the development of the policy and procedures is:

The District will provide a draft of the policy and procedures on the District website during the week of April 18, 2022.

The School Board will have discussion for first reading at their meeting on Tues, May 10, 2022.

The School Board will accept comments and feedback between the first reading and second reading.

The School Board will have discussion for second reading and adopt the policy and procedures on Tues, June 14, 2022.

Recently, on Tues, April 12, the School Board had a question/answer session with the District lawyer regarding policy development.
