Keep on the lookout for new changes at the Mountainview computer lab

Sep 21, 2022

If you are hearing words like coding, beebots and ozobots, it is because our Elementary schools, specifically Mountainview Elementary, is incorporating these STEM activities into their computer lab! Students from Kindergarten through second grade (K-2) are learning how to program beebots. A Beebot is an exciting robot designed specifically for the use by young children to make different shapes on paper. This colorful, easy-to-operate, and friendly little robot is a perfect tool for teaching, sequencing, estimation, problem-solving, and just having fun!

Students in grades third through fifth (3-5) are using Ozobots which are little robots that are designed as an introduction to coding. The students are creating codes to make ozobots that do u-turns, go slow and fast, spin, zig zag, and even move like a tornado. The possibilities for using these are endless! As Principal Debbie Cameron explains, "We are so excited to utilize our new materials that we purchased from a STEM grant that we received last year!"
