The West Valley School Board was recognized as a 2025 “Board of Distinction” by the Washington State School Directors Association at the WSSDA Annual Conference in Seattle.  Research has demonstrated a correlation between school boards that have high alignment of coherence on the school board self-assessment and high levels of student achievement in the school district.

The West Valley School District is known for academic excellence and fiscal responsibility.  Students from the West Valley School District score above the state averages at nearly every grade level and content area.

Recently, the West Valley School Board unanimously approved a defeasance of $7.5 million to lower the tax rate from 2026 to 2038.  In addition, the Board unanimously approved resolutions for a replacement levy and replacement bond to address educational and facility needs.

The Washington State School Directors Association noted, “Since its inception, the Boards of Distinction program has emphasized rigorous criteria, including narrowing opportunity gaps, aligning board actions with student-success initiatives, and distinguishing board efforts from staff operations.”

The West Valley School Board certifies a balanced budget each year to ensure the future success of West Valley schools.  Congratulations to the West Valley School Board!
