In Flanders fields the poppies blow
In recognition of Veterans Day, third-graders at Cottonwood Elementary studied the war poem, “In Flanders Field,” by John McCrae. The poem was written during World War I and commemorates fallen soldiers. Flanders fields refers to the red poppies that would grow over soldiers’ graves in the western Belgium area. After studying the poem and its significance, third-graders created their own red poppies to celebrate our veterans. Students’ red poppies can be seen outside of Cottonwood Elementary.
Jessica Stonecipher, Jen Ditter, Cathy Warren and Jen Young were the third-grade teachers behind the project.
