The Yakima Health District completed their walk through of WVSD classrooms on Friday, October 9, and gave their approval of the plan Monday afternoon. YHD considered class sizes and the in-person attendance numbers from parent declarations to determine if safety measures could be maintained before rendering their decision. The approval comes as Governor Jay Inslee announces that Yakima County can move into Phase 2 of the “Safe Start Washington” plan. As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 323 elementary students were remaining in a remote learning option out of the nearly 2,000 currently enrolled in West Valley elementary schools. Below is a list of the numbers in each school:
Apple Valley 43
Wide Hollow 61
Classes are scheduled to begin in person on Monday, October 19. More details will follow over the next several days.
