To all Band Students, Parents and Guardians, Greetings from the West Valley Jr. High band room! The primary activity in each class is learning how to play wind or percussion instruments while also learning how to work together to perform works of music. Math, language and problem solving skills learned in the band setting are transferable and help students in every subject. During the course of this school year, the bands will present concerts, participate in band festivals, go on performance trips and complete other band related activities to showcase what has been learned. In addition, the enjoyment and sense of satisfaction a student experiences through successful performances of music can increase self-esteem and confidence at a very critical period in a young person’s life. The continued health, happiness and success of the band program as a whole is due to hardworking students who strive for excellence and great school and community support, ongoing communication and cooperation from parents and the wonderful staff at West Valley Jr. High. It is my hope that this book will help all of us in our continued efforts to provide a quality, meaningful music experience for all the band students at West Valley Jr. High, while also conveying the goals and expectations for all band classes. I am happy to have your student in the West Valley Jr. High Panther Band program and look forward to a great musical year!
