Dissection Works

You are about to dissect Five Animals . All are virtual reality dissections that will be done on a computer. You will do a dissection on an earthworm, crayfish, perch, frog, and a fetal pig. To complete each dissection, you will need to do the following:

1. Perform the external and internal dissection on the computer.

2. Print, complete and turn in a worksheet based on what you observe during the dissection. (10 Points Total Each WS)

3. Complete and score four labeled diagrams for each animal. (16 Points Total See below)

4. Print, complete and turn in a test based on what you have learned from the dissection. (23 Points Total Each Test)

The Dissection Works Program has been loaded on to two of the Mac Computers in the in the classroom. You may need help from your instructor to get started. After accessing the the animal you wish to dissect, you will need to familiarize yourself with the tools and process for the dissection. As you work through the external and internal dissection, you will be prompted to use the magnifying glass to view specific organs. You may need to look up the function of the organ in the glossary and schematics as you dissect.

The Glossary and the Schematics are useful for getting specific information on the animal's organ systems. You may use these features when completing the worksheet and the test as well. If you cannot find answers to all the questions from these two sources you may need to access one of the search engines on the internet.

When done with the four required activities for each animal, you will turn in the work sheets and tests as well as this page to your instructor for correcting.

In the table below, record the date you completed the external and internal dissection of the animal and record the total points you scored on the labeled diagram activity. Handle the scalpel with care. You will find that the dissected animals are easy to clean up and dispose of so have fun in your venture.
