2008 was the first season that Doug Snipes served as the Assistant Boys' Golf Coach at West Valley High School. Coach Snipes began playing seriously when he was a senior at Central Washington University. "[I] was terrible but loved to compete. [I] marveled at the way some guys could work the ball either way with the wind in Ellensburg. I wanted to be able to do that too, so I focused on learning the golf swing." He now carries a 4 handicap and won the 2003 Club Championship at Apple Tree Golf Course. The thing that Coach Snipes enjoys most about coaching is seeing the kids make progress. "There is something magical and satisfying about seeing a young person get excited about his or her ability to do something they didn't think they were capable of." When he's not coaching, Coach Snipes enjoys hanging out with his sons Steven and Sam, attending Bible Study, skiing, boating, writing and playing guitar. |
