WEST VALLEY FOOTBALL
Lettering Criteria
Earning a varsity letter from West Valley High School is an honor. We want our players to not only be competitive on the field, but we want them to become well rounded in the school and community. Our lettering criteria will reflect this well roundedness by requiring the athlete to fulfill requirements in 5 major areas: playing time, academics, team service, mentorship and community service.
The following are the requirement details of how an athlete may earn their varsity letter.
- Play in a minimum of 15 varsity quarters.
- Earn 3 points in the area of Academics
- Mid-trimester check GPA: 3.5 = 3 pts (no probation), 3.0 = 2 pts, 2.5 = 1 pt
- 1 point by not being placed on academic probation
- .5 pts/week (2 times/week) study table attendance
- 1 point for study table tutoring
- Sell a minimum of 10 Ram Cards
- Earn 4 points in the Grid Iron Buddy Program (w/ log turn in)
- 1 point - attending buddies game w/player contact (coach verification)
- 1 point – attend practice w/player contact (coach verification)
- .5 point other personal contact (phone, visit, etc)
- Serve 6 hours of non-paid community service (coach approval)
- Complete the season (Aug. 15 to banquet) in good standing
- Coaches Discretion.
Other events that may be considered to receive a letter:
EWU football camp, Speed Camp, WV weight room participation
