CAREER PATHWAYS
Where am I going?
Freshmen take the Clues Self-Interest Inventory used by WOIS/The Career
Information System** for beginning placement into Career Pathways. WOIS
is a private, nonprofit organization that researches and distibutes information
about Washington careers, schools and training programs.
** WOIS software is installed on library and counseling computers only,
but WOIS Online may be used from any
computer on campus as well as in the library.
How do I get there?
Incoming sophomores meet individually with parents and a teacher/advisor
who helps students decided on appropriate courses in line with the Career
Pathways they have chosen. Sophomores complete the Dependable Strengths
inventory provided by WOIS and further refine or change career pathways.
Juniors and Seniors revisit WOIS and select possible technical schools,
universities, or community colleges. They also have access to CollegeQuest
both on school computers and home computers to help with college
selection. Junior and Seniors use WOIS to look at different ways to
fund their education or technical training.
How do I stay on course?
Students take advantage of the School-to-Work
transition program participating in job shadows, mentorships, or interships
offerred through Yakima Chamber
of Commerce Business/Education Partnership Program .
All students revisit WOIS at intervals and continue career-related activities
such as resumé writing or researching careers related to specific
departments.
