Reflective Essays

This assignment directly addresses EALR #4. It also provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate maturity and your readiness to do well on future writing tasks whether that is on the WASL, in a class, or in the workforce. The audience for the first 3 essays is yourself, your teacher, and the state evaluators that want writing to be a strong skill for every HS student. The audience for the fourth essay is you!

Reflective Essay #1

Use the syllabus and reread the descriptions of EALR 1. In your essay, address your strengths and weaknesses in all three areas. Be specific; use examples from the 6 essays that you wrote for this class or other writing assignments. Be honest; be positive.

Reflective Essay #2

Use the syllabus to reread the descriptions of EALR 2. In your essay, address your strengths and weaknesses in all four areas. Be specific about the purposes and forms you consider your strongest and those that you consider your weakest. Explain why. Be honest; be positive.

Reflective Essay #3

Use the syllabus to reread the descriptions of EALR 3. In your essay comment on how often and when you use all the steps of the writing process. What steps are you tempted to skip? Why? Which steps do you enjoy most? Have you learned to take your time and go through the process for a formal writing assignment?

Reflective Essay #4

Write a letter to yourself. Consider all that you learned in this class (it should be in the first three reflections) and give yourself some writing advice for your future writing projects. Be specific. Have some fun, but show a commitment to improving your writing skills through practice. Think of the letter as a personalized set of "Writer's Tips" just for you. To get started you might ask yourself "What would my teacher tell me to remember?"
