Directions:
- Use the Reading Packet to complete the following activities.
- Check the Alignment document to see which standards you will be working on as you complete this work.
- Take care to do thoughtful, best work. If your work is not up to standard you will redo it if you want credit.
- Please ask questions if you have them as you work.
Assignment ONE:
- Using WORD, create a table that has 4 columns and 9 rows. Use the first row as titles and name the columns:
Title |
Type of reading |
Google Search Terms |
Your Preference |
- Fill in the first column with the titles from the packet. USE THE COMPLETE TITLE. There will be 8 total.
- Classify each type of reading (2 nd column) using the best label from this list:
Fable
Newspaper article
Biography
Poem
Primary Source
Historical Summary
Timeline
Informational
- IF you were asked to use the Internet to do further research on each topic you would need to figure out some "search terms" for Google to use. Think about each reading…in the third column list one or two search terms you think would help you get reliable and useful hits for additional research on the topic of the reading.
- Finally, in the last column, number the readings from 1 to 8 with #1 being the reading you liked the best all the way to the one you liked the least.
- SAVE and print this assignment for credit.
Assignment TWO:
- Create another table. You will need 4 columns and 9 rows again. Please label the columns:
- Fill in the titles again (you could copy and paste). This time you will need to analyze the larger issue(s) each reading is addressing. Think about the message in the reading - what can thoughtful reading help you understand about yourself, other people and the world in general? Explain the connections you make for each story in the appropriate part of the table. WRITE LIKE A HS STUDENT, not a lazy kid!
- SAVE and print this assignment for credit.
Examples:
(You will obviously use your own!)
Mail on the Move - SELF - I take mail for granted!
Katherine Dunham - OTHERS - Some people are more driven with a specific passion than I am. No matter what they are able to add to our culture.
Sea Offers Up - WORLD - Until this new technology we have only been able to explore about 2% of the sea floor. Think what is out there and what we will learn from it! This is almost like discovering how to get to another planet and check it out.
