Different types of depression
Major depressions: Major depression unlike other forms of depression is very persistent and it can have a huge affect on the way someone lives their life. Major depression will cause you to be filled with extreme sadness and a loss of interest in things. It can also affect your physical health as well as your emotional health. Major depression is often treated with medication.
Clinical Depression: Clinical depression is a psychiatric disorder. It is also know as major depressive disorder. It is usually caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It can be treated with medication, therapy, acupuncture, and exercise. Symptoms of Clinical depression are lack of energy; sever mood changes, anxiety, insomnia, feeling of worthlessness, headaches, Thoughts of suicide, difficulty concentrating, self mutilation, and extreme sadness.
Bipolar disorder: Bipolar disorder is a depression which causes extreme mood changes in a short period of time. One day you will have a low, and the next day you may have a high. A low is when you feel extremely sad and at times suicidal many people are unable to get out of bed because they feel so bad. A high is when a person who is bipolar feels like they are on top of the world they feel like they can do anything, when they are experiencing a high they often talk really fast and do things very out of the ordinary. When they are on a high they are almost in a psychotic state of mind. Bipolar disorder can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain; it can also be caused by genetics. You can treat bipolar disorder by taking medication or seeing a therapist.
Chronic Depression: Chronic depression is also known as dysthymia. It is a less sever depression than the others however the symptoms of chronic depression last a lot longer than other depressive disorders. Some symptoms of chronic depression are lack of interest in daily activities, Excessive feelings of guilt or worthlessness, difficulty sleeping, lack of energy, changes in appetite, and thoughts of death or suicide. Chronic depression can be treated by talk therapy or medication.
Seasonal Depression: Seasonal depression usually occurs each year at the same time. It usually starts in the fall and ends in late spring or early summer. Some symptoms include sadness, irritability, loss of interest in activates, lack of energy, and increased appetite or weight gain. Seasonal depression can be treated by light therapy or medication.
Psychotic Depression: Psychotic depression is a serious form of depression that can cause a person to hallucinate or see things that aren’t there it is a lot like schizophrenia, however the people with psychotic depression realize that what they are seeing isn’t real unlike those people with schizophrenia. Symptoms include anxiety, agitation, insomnia, hypochondria, intellectual impairment, physical problems, and psychosis. It can be treated by a mixture of antidepressants and antipsychotic medication. It can also be treated with a mixture of psychotherapy.
Postpartum Depression: Postpartum depression is a mixture of physical, emotional, and behavioral changes. It usually occurs after giving birth. It is caused by a rapid drop in hormones usually. It can be treated by medication and therapy.
