The emphasis in this course is on the history of Western civilization. Students trace the development of human culture from prehistoric man to early civilizations, culminating in the ancient era with the Greeks and Romans. From there, they examine the European Middle Ages, the development of nations, and the Renaissance and Reformation.
Student Learning Objectives
As a result of required instruction the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to arrange events chronologically.
2. Demonstrate the ability to draw inferences from ideas by explaining conditions and events.
3. Distinguish between economic, political, social, and geographic pressures and ideas and their effects.
4. Develop a proficiency in the vocabulary of the social studies discipline.
5. Gain an appreciation for the contributions of historical cultures to Western and particularly American Civilization
