Dr. Tahat was born and raised in the Philippines. She went to the University of the Philippines where she obtained her Bachelors and Masters Degree for science. She achieved her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) for science in Nagasaki University in Japan.

She has experience working in science research for many years. She likewise taught Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, and other science courses in colleges and universities.

Dr. Tahat is married with two children: an older son in College and a daughter in High School.
