In order to take any of the Cornerstone classes for credit, students must take the APTP test and get placed into a class. Specific scores are listed below.
Calculus: APTP advanced test - 19 out of 30 required for placement
Pre-calculus: APTP intermediate test - 18 out of 35 required for placement
Math 101: Compass test - 50 or better for placement
Math 102: Compass test - 50 or better for placement
For more information about test sites, test dates, and sample problems, visit the APTP site.
For information and practice on the Compass test visit the official site , or click this link for some extra practice.
If you miss all of the test dates, we will make an effort to make special arrangements for the 2006-2007 school year because of the late notice in the class changes.
Do I have to take and pay for the credits if I want to be in the class?
No. CWU does not require you to be taking the credits in order for you to be in the class.
When do I have to pay for the credits?
CWU likes to have payment in the first 3 or 4 weeks of the class.
Which class should I take?
You could let the placement test direct you, but generally, if you are going into the sciences, you want to aim for the pre-calc and calc classes. If you want an additional year of mathematics because you are going to a 4-year school, you should take Math 101 and/or Math 102.
Will the college that I am going to take my Cornerstone Credits?
This is a tricky question because every school gets to decide for itself which credits it will take with an incoming student. The only way to get an answer to this question is to call the schools you are going to be applying to, and ask them if they will take the credits. This is true whether you are doing college in the high school, or taking AP Tests.
Are there any extra advantages to doing this if I am planning on going to CWU?
CWU does offer some scholarships exclusively to Cornerstone students - they are interested in having you attend their school.
If I take 2 trimesters, do I have to pay for both of them?
You do not have to pay for both trimesters. You just pay for the trimesters that you want to pay for. If the school you are considering will only take 5 transfer credits, then you should only pay for 5 credits.
