| Format and Grading of the AP Chemistry Exam The AP Chemistry test is a three-hour long, two-section test that attempts to cover the material you would learn in a college first-year chemistry course. The test has two main parts. Look closely at each of the subsections, the times and the grading percentages.

B) Predicting Products & Essays (50 min. without calculator)
1) Predicting Products (Writing Chemical Equations)
15% of the free response (8.25% overall) choose 5 out of 8,
3 pts total, 1pt for correct reactants, 2pts for correct product
2) Essays
a) One essay questions, which is related to the laboratory
15% of the free response (8.3% overall)
b) Choose two of four remaining essay questions
15% each, or 30% of the free response (16.6% overall)
The questions in this section provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their quantitative problem-solving skills, their knowledge of chemical reactions, and their ability to reason and explain ideas in a logical and coherent fashion. |
