    For this .5 credit course you will need to complete A+ lessons online, the Sound and Sense exercises, and the Adventures in American Literature exercises. The final for the class is a 3-5 page paper discussed at the end of the syllabus.

    **Please complete one unit at a time and turn each one in separately. Make a cover-page that includes your name, the course title, the Unit, and any extras you’d like to include. Complete the units in order and turn them in in order, please!

    Unit 1: Poetry /100 points

    *Read ALL of each chapter including the introductions and comments to the various poems. It will help you answer the Qs!

    Using Sound and Sense , complete the following chapters and answer all questions in each chapter.

      1. Type it out using the original formatting
      2. Paraphrase it (like the example on page 23 and 24)
      3. Explain, in at least two paragraphs, why this poem was memorable to you. Consider the following Qs as you brainstorm what to write: Did it remind you of something? Did the language or imagery paint a clear picture for you? Did you like the way it sounded when it was read aloud? Is the theme something that is important to you?

    Read the following novels:

    Please consider the following assignments as you read so you can plan ahead and be prepared to complete them!

    1. Complete the Book Report for each novel - this is the w/s packet mentioned above.
    2. Write one paragraph for each novel’s main character. Explain the main issue(s) he faced while growing up and how that affected him.
    3. Write a 3-5 page essay (WITH A THESIS) comparing yourself to the main character you are most like. To arrange your paper, try to think of 3 events, 3 thoughts or 3 challenges you have in common with the character. For each section, use an example from your life and one from the character’s life. Conclude the essay by addressing how reading about another teenager helped you understand yourself a little bit better.
