For this .5 credit course you will need to complete the A+ lessons online and the lessons in the Literature and Language (L&L) book. The final for the class is a 7-page paper discussed at the end of the syllabus.

Please complete all of Unit 1 before you move on. Staple all of the story Qs together with a title page that includes your name, the class name, unit # and any extras you want to add. Turn in your rough draft for the essay and then start on the next unit.

Read the unit prep on page 63 and do the writing assignment: "Describe a time when you acted proud or in control even though you felt differently inside."

• Read the biography of the author on p 113. It is often said that we should be careful of "when we peak" because it is all downhill from there. If your best accomplishments are in HS, that is a lot of years of disappointment. Dan found his HS years frustrating and unfulfilling but obviously kept going and peaked much later. What things have seemed like a disappointment to you in HS that won’t be more than "character building" when you look back as a successful adult?

(100 points) Read all of pages 114-117. Write a reflective essay, it needs to be at least 3 pages double spaced make sure to turn in all pre-writing material with your final draft.

(100 points) Use the process taught on p 316-322 to write a biography. The final drafr needs to be 3-5 pages in length, double-spaced, 12 inch font. To earn any credit the paper must include 2 things: THE THEME IN ONE SENTENCE & A WORKS CITED PAGE IN PROPER FORMAT! Please ask for help if you need it.

Diary writing is another form of telling a story. You don’t simply write a diary – you do it with a purpose. Think of a lesson you’ve learned in life or a really challenging time you’ve faced while growing up. To teach that lesson and help others appreciate your challenges – tell the story in the form of a 7-day diary/journal. You will be graded on

• Your use of descriptive language
• Using at least 5 vocab words from Unit 1 or 2 (underline them)

You are encouraged to be truthful and honest, and even write informally, but do spell-check and don’t use offensive or inappropriate language.

Each day needs to be one full page, double-spaced, you may use fictional and non-fictional events.
