For this .5 credit course you will need to complete the A+ lessons online and the lessons in the Literature and Language (L&L) book. You will also be reading two short novels and doing book reports on each. The final for the class is a 3-5 page paper discussed at the end of the syllabus.

**Please turn in each UNIT one at a time when you have completed ALL of that units assignments. Make a title or cover page for the unit with your name, the class, the unit, and any extra touches youd like to add.
Unit 1: The Right Choice (105 points)
Read pg. 17-18 as prep for this unit.
Read Fan Club pages 19-25.
Read the story Like Mexicans page 31-34 and answer Qs 2-5 on pg. 35
Read the story A Kind of Murder page 37-43.
Read both poems Road Not Taken and Choices on pg. 50-51.
Read pages 54-57. Write the first person narrative as described. Turn in:
Unit 2: Tests of Courage (75 points)
Read the Story The Street of the Canon pg. 327.
Read the Story excerpt from My Left Foot on pg. 338
Complete the "Examine What You Know" word web on pg. 345. Read the story The Test then answer Qs 2-7 on pg. 350.
Read the poems Courage and If pages 352-355.
Use the process on page 358-361 to write a poem. Make sure you include each of the prewriting steps with your final draft. Afterwards, answer questions 1-3 on page 361.
Read page 547, 548 & 549. Use the "Enrich Your Readings" note taking chart while you read the play Twelve Angry Men on pages 550-588. Answer Qs 1, 3, 5, and 6.
Unit 3: Reality (200 points)
This will be counted as your final for the class.
Read both novels, The Giver and Anthem. Complete the worksheet packet questions for each book.
Using the tips on pages 541-544, write a paper arguing that people would be better off living in the world described in one of the novels. (You pick which world you want to argue for.) Use specific details from the book to support your point of view.
