These values are defined for work. Think of them in terms of school. Think of how HS is set up. Consider teachers that ask you to work in groups, alone, give lots of detailed instructions, let you find your own way, seem to care about you or seem to care about the conent of their class, etc.
Copy and paste this worksheet into Word. For each value add your own comments (at least one paragraph) about how much you value each factor in classes. Be honest but also be nice. Some examples are below in blue. You can also ask your teacher if you are having a hard time getting started.
Working Conditions
People for whom good (learning) working conditions are important like jobs (classes) offering steady employment and good pay (predictable routine and assignments) . They want employment (classes) that fits their individual work style. They may prefer doing a variety of tasks, working alone, or being busy all the time.
Does the teacher or how the class is run make a big impact in if you will be successful in a class? Do you know what the perfect classroom would be for you, or do you just figure out what each teacher wants and adjust?
Independence
People for whom independence is important like to make decisions and try out ideas on their own. They prefer jobs (classes) where they can plan their work (assignments) with little supervision.
Do you hate open-ended assignments or love them? Do you want a lot of feedback on your work as you go or just a grade at the end? Do you respect teachers who have you do self-evaluations or think that is a waste of time?
Achievement
People for whom achievement is important like to see the results of their work and to use their strongest abilities. They like to get a feeling of accomplishment from their work.
Do you either hate or love a class based on if you already feel "smart" in that area? Do you find yourself doing your best work even if it is more than the teacher asked for? Do you like to talk about what you are learning?
Recognition
People for whom recognition is important like to work in jobs (learn in classrooms) which have opportunities for them to advance, be recognized for their work, and direct and instruct others. They usually prefer jobs (classes) in which they are looked up to by others.
Do you like group work or tutoring friends? Do you like it when teachers post work or read "top" papers to the class? Are you always excited to see new grades posted?
Support
People for whom support from their employer (teacher) is important like to be treated fairly and have supervisors who will back them up. They prefer jobs (classes) where they are trained well.
Do you think it is the teacher's job to present all the information to you before an assessment? Do you find yourself judging teachers (and others) by how "fair" you think they are? Do you think it is OK for teachers to embarass kids as a form of discipline or to get them back on task?
Relationships
People for whom relationships are important like to work (learn) in a friendly, non-competitive environment. They like to do things for other people. They prefer jobs (classes) where they are not pressured to do things that go against their sense of right and wrong.
Do you learn more from class discussions than a teacher lecture or reading? Do you like your ideas or believes challenged or respected?
