Oral Presentation

It should take you about 2 days to prepare this presentation and then about 10 minutes to share it with your teacher.

Goals:

  1. Student learns to create a clean, professional and informative PowerPoint Presentation.
  2. Student articulates what they have learned about themselves in Ram Prep 10 (and elsewhere) that relates to their future choices and plans.
  3. Student shares their knowledge of a career including analysis of how that career would or would not be a good fit for them.

Think of this as the Final Test for Ram Prep 10. If done successfully it will pull information from every assignment in the syllabus. Pick the one or two things from each assignment and weave them together like a "highlight show."

Steps:

  1. Review each assignment in your portfolio. Decide which info is critical to share. Remember you are explaining...
  2. Outline what you want to say.
  3. Make PowerPoint slides for each of your main points.
  4. PRACTICE talking with the PowerPoint slides. (Your presentation should take 3 to 5 minutes and then be ready to answer Qs.)
  5. Arrange a time to present to your teacher.

PowerPoint Tips

Don't be intimidated by PowerPoint if it is new to you. We can help you out. It is easy to learn and fun to use.

  1. Do NOT use a different background for each slide - this is irritating and distracting. Find one that will work for all or most of your slides and use it to create continuity. If a slide has a different background (picture, for example ) it should be for a GOOD reason, not just because you wanted to try it.
  2. NO sentences on slides - only key words or phrases. You should SAY way more than the words on the slide. They are to remind you and the audience of your main points.
  3. Be cautious about how many "Effects" you use. It can be painful to wait for every word to fly in or get typed out. Use the effects rarely and they will have more impact when you really want it. Also, automatically timing them is usually a bad idea for a live presentation. There are a few exceptions, but practice it lots of times to be sure you want it that way.
  4. Like backgrounds, too many fonts is only distracting. Find one you like and vary the size or style to emphasize text you want to stand out.
  5. Lots of cute colors is not as good as CONTRASTING colors. Pink font on a yellow bacground, or blue font on a black background is usually not easy to see.
  6. Don't stretch pictures or clip art so far that they are distorted. It is better to find a different picture than have a blurry or small one that no one can really see.
  7. Since you are publishing this by using it in a presentation - there can be NO SPELLING ERRORS. Double and triple check. Along the same lines, be consistent with formatting and spacing. Take a lot of time to EDIT so it looks polished.
