Compare & Contrast Paper

Simply put, you are going to be choosing two careers to compare and contrast. These careers can be from the three that you researched in the “WOIS Career Profiles” assignment or other careers that you want to investigate. The research will be extensive, so please select careers that genuinely interest you, careers that you might honestly want to pursue.

This is a major assignment in Ram Prep 10. It is important for a few reasons. Please read and think about the learning goals below:

1. Students will make connections between texts or ideas, engage in critical thinking, and go beyond mere description or summary to generate interesting analysis .
2. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the careers, their relationship to each other, and what is most important about them .
3. Students will learn to use the steps of the writing process to draft a quality HS level paper.
4. Students will know how to construct a Compare/Contrast Paper. This format will be used in other classes.
5. Students will understand the resources available to help them create accurately formatted Works Cited pages. These will be expected for every HS writing assignment that involves research.

As you can probably guess, this assignment will take at least a week because there are many learning goals to meet.

In summary, you will be doing the following steps. Each step MUST be shown to the teacher and signed off before you proceed to the next.

Next, you need to print the COMPARE & CONTRAST PACKET. This packet contains some critical resources you'll need to complete the above assignments. Be sure to use the graphic organizers to organize the research. Choose the outline you want to use - notice that you MUST turn in an outline. The rubric explains how the paper will be graded. Remember that a NS class requires at least a C in every category or you will need to redo the assignment.

When you complete an assignment, bring all the pieces to your teacher for review. If the assignment meets standard, you'll get initials and then proceed to the next step. If you get the teacher's feedback along the way you won't get all the way done and then find out you need to start over.
