  1. Is classical music hard for you to listen to? Why? Did any of the reasons in the class apply to you? Which ones?
  2. When will you listen to classical music? Write down a specific time.
  3. Make an instrument chart. List all four families and the instruments in them.
  4. What is a concertmaster?
  5. Choose one instrument from each family, and write three paragraphs about its history, how it is played, what it is made out of, and any other interesting facts you can find.
  6. Type in "orchestra instruments" into any search engine and find a site or sites where you can listen to individual instruments play. Listen to at least three instruments from each family.
  7. Draw a diagram of how an orchestra is laid out.
  8. Write a 3 to 5 paragraph report about a conductor that you learn about on the internet. You can go to a specific symphony site, or type in "symphony conductor" into a search engine.
  9. Find out where the closest symphony orchestra is to you. Where is it? Do you have a high school, college or university near you? Do they have an orchestra?
  10. Make arrangements to watch a symphony orchestra play: this can be on video, TV, or in person. Most colleges and universities have inexpensive performances. Record all of the possibilities you have for seeing a concert, and then go see it!
