What's Anime Club?

The anime club is a group of people who, well, like anime. Every Thursday afternoon, we gather in the hovel known as Mr. Cabbage's classroom and watch anime by the warm glow of the large projecter screen. Beyond anime, we also do a little study of Japanese culture. Basically, all you need to join anime club is a love of anime and an interest in Japanese culture.

Alright . . . so what's anime?

Anime is, shortly put, a stylized Japanese cartoon. Most anime is drawn within roughly the same styles, with general stylistic differences based on the fact that all artists and creations are different. For a basic feel of what anime looks like, you might want to look to popular anime released in America such as Pokemon or Naruto. Of course, we don't spend our time watching Pokemon, but I think you get the point.

Because Japanese children are allowed to watch more violent and mature programming, anime typically has a more mature plot than most cartoons we're used to here in the U.S. Not that we sit around and watch loads of blood and gore and stuff, as school rules sorta keep us from doing that.

How can I get in on it?

Well, we meet every other Wednesday during second period for a regular club meeting, in which we don't do quite as much; we talk, plan what we want to do, talk about anime, et cetera. Then, every Thursday permitting, we stay after school until five o'clock to watch anime in Mr. Cabbage's room. All you really have to do is show up.

So! Don't forget to show up and have some fun!

Message from our President:

Permission slips for checking out manga and watching anime after school will be required. We will be handing them out next club day. ~ Your President Jazmyne
