Salary - $11.91 per hour until successful completion of six month probation, then $13.24 per hour
Work Time: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and additional as directed
Anticipated Start Date: September 13, 2010
HOMEWORK CENTER PARAPROFESSIONAL
POSITION: Monday through Friday 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm plus an additional 6 hours during the regular school week. Times - TBD.
LOCATION: WestValleyHigh School
QUALIFICATIONS: All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.
1. Demonstrate an ability to relate to at0risk teenagers
2. Personal understanding of the HS and post-HS systems
3. Ability to organize data in a useful manner
4. Ability to deal with confidential info in a professionally appropriate manner
5. Willingness to use a team approach to supporting student success
6. Set high standards and provide the support to reach those standards
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
8. Ability to take a big picture goal and independently break it into the steps necessary to reach
the goal
9. Positive attitude
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: NOTE: Para-educators are assistants to the certified staff. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Support the goals and objectives of each individual student’s learning plan.
2. Uphold and enforce all West Valley High School and West Valley School District rules and
policies.
3. Follow the directions and expectations of the certified staff in the program.
4. Aid in student management and help supervise students.
5. Tutor students in a variety of subjects.
6. Monitor and enter daily attendance.
7. Post periodic student reports as directed by the teachers.
8. Attend weekly meetings with teachers and counselors to communicate any student,
curriculum, or class concerns, as well as to facilitate smooth operation of the program.
9. Maintain a professional, mature, and appropriate relationship with students and staff al all
times.
10. Evidence of prompt, regular attendance in previous positions.
11. Maintain confidentiality of student materials and issues.
12. Any other appropriate duties as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assisting in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 34 % sitting, 33 % walking, and 33 % standing. The job related is performed under a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
EXPERIENCE Job related experience is desired
EDUCATION High School graduate
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate, may be required
CLEARANCES Criminal Fingerprint/Background Clearance & Drug Screening
All new employees must complete fingerprint and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00
