POSITION : 1.0 FTE Alternative Education Teacher

LOCATION : West Valley Junior High School

QUALIFICATIONS :  All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.

  1. Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  2. Demonstrated success in assessing and diagnosing specific learning deficiencies and providing appropriate student interventions to fill competency gaps.
  3. Demonstrated computer literacy.
  4. Believe that all students can learn.
  5. Demonstrated success with non-traditional learners and at-risk students.
  6. Evidence of high standards in classroom management and student achievement.
  7. Ability to work cooperatively with other department members in developing and revising curriculum and instructional materials.
    8. Demonstrated flexibility in working with students of various levels of skill and knowledge.

  JOB DESCRIPTION: This credit retrieval program provides an alternative to regular classroom instruction for students with a deficiency in credits.

  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs for students as assigned.
  2. Remain knowledgeable about the regular curriculum in grades nine through twelve.
  3. Participate actively with the building team and with colleagues across the district in curriculum and assessment development and training.
  4. Communicate regularly and pro-actively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
  5. Maintain a positive attitude and productive learning environment.
  6. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  7. Participate in all curriculum development and training sessions regarding math adoptions and materials.
  8. Align all instruction to meet the GLEs for math as well as the corresponding NCTM standards.
  9. Uphold and enforce all school and District Board rules and policies.
  10. Model appropriate professional behaviors at all times.
  11. Instruct classes in accordance with WVSD adopted curriculum guidelines and Washington State Essential Academic Learning benchmarks.
  12. Demonstrate every period of every day, evidence of relevant bell-to-bell instruction.

All new employees must complete fingerprint and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00.
