Parent Child Home Program Home Visitor

Job Description

  

Primary Responsibility: Visit families of two, three and four year olds, modeling appropriate verbal interaction during reading and play.

 

Directly Responsible To: PCHP Supervisor

 

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the PCHP Supervisor, the Home Visitor will:

• Visit assigned families twice a week for thirty minutes each visit.

• Model for the parent(s), appropriate ways to verbally interact with their child using a

toy or book.

• Create an atmosphere in which the parent feels comfortable participating.

• Respect the role of the parent as the child’s first and most important teacher.

• Write an anecdotal report for each home visit in a timely manner.

• Keep paperwork up-to-date and organized, and submit reports and time sheets by

deadlines.

• Attend training sessions and weekly staff meeting led by the PCHP Supervisor.

• Learn techniques for using toys and books to increase verbal interaction between parent

and child.

• Be supportive of other Home Visitors and be constructive when offering advice to

others on staff.

• Respect the privacy of all the clients and show good judgment in the discussion of

sensitive family issues at staff meetings and personal conferences.

• Maintain a non-judgmental attitude toward program families.

• Have some basic knowledge of child development and model for the parent appropriate

behavioral expectations of two, three and four year old children.

• Exhibit flexibility when working with young children and family members in the home

setting.

• Work independently and responsibly.

• Know how to have fun within the context of the program!

 

Qualities:

Enjoy playing and reading with young children and exhibit warmth and patience

when dealing with toddlers and families.

• Is capable of being flexible in the home setting and can deal with a variety of

circumstances as they occur.

• Have some knowledge of the community to be served, or is willing to learn.

• Ability to speak and read Spanish would be an additional asset but not a necessity

 

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

 

 

 

All new employees must complete fingerprint and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00
