POSITION: Special Education Resource Room - High School
Math Emphasis
QUALIFICATIONS: All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with major/minor in special education or equivalent. Evidence of competency in high school instruction as evidenced by college transcript and recent successful experience.
- Ability to teach mathematics and language arts in the resource room setting.
- Evidence of training and experience utilizing computer technology for grading, recording attendance, word processing, spreadsheets, Power Point, communicating with e-mail and incorporating these computer technologies into daily classroom use and lesson instruction.
- Evidence of successful use of calculators and other technological devices to enhance student learning.
- Evidence of frequent incorporation of writing within the content area in daily classroom instruction.
- Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
- Evidence of awareness and implementation of the current changes affecting mathematics education, particularly the NCTM Standards, Benchmark 3 WASL, and ESEA Standards.
- Evidence of recent participation in professional activities related to mathematics education, including recent math instruction and methods.
- Evidence of recent successful experience working with students in a multi-cultural education environment.
- Demonstrated success in assessing and diagnosing specific learning deficiencies and providing appropriate student interventions to fill competency gaps, particularly in the core areas of Language Arts and Mathematics.
- Demonstrated competence in implementing and developing computer-based instruction aligned with State Grade Level Expectations in math and science.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Special education background preferred.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience in special education within the last 5 years.
- Believe that all students can learn.
- Demonstrated success with non-traditional learners and at-risk students.
- Evidence of high standards in classroom management and student achievement.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement Washington State Essential Academic Learning Standards for math and science
- Satisfactory performance evaluations for at least the last 3 years.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work cooperatively with other team members in developing curriculum, meeting State standards, and teaching assignments.
- Must be able to meet or be willing to attain the “highly qualified” standard under NCLB.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Special Education Resource Room provides an alternative to regular classroom instruction for students with disabilities.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs for students as assigned.
- Remain knowledgeable about the regular curriculum in grades nine through twelve.
- Implement requirements according to IDEiA 2004 and its implementation rules and regulations as well as those of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the ADA in the education of students with disabilities.
- Participate actively with the building team and with colleagues across the district in curriculum and assessment development and training.
- Communicate regularly and pro-actively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
- Maintain a positive attitude and productive learning environment.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Participate in all curriculum development and training sessions regarding math adoptions and materials.
- Align all instruction to meet the GLEs for math as well as the corresponding NCTM standards.
- Uphold and enforce all school and District Board rules and policies.
- Model appropriate professional behaviors at all times.
- Instruct classes in accordance with WVSD adopted curriculum guidelines and Washington State Essential Academic Learning benchmarks.
- Participate in West Valley School District ’s professional growth program.
- Demonstrate every period of every day, evidence of relevant bell-to-bell instruction.
