WEST VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

JOB OPENING: VARSITY BOY’S SOCCER COACH

 

NAME OF POSITION: BOY’S VARSITY SOCCER COACH

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To serve as the Head Coach of the West Valley Boy’s Soccer Program.

 

THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Athletic Director and Principal.

 

TIME:

Dates Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): February 27- May 26, 2012 (Spring Sports Season)

Weeks per season/year: 13

Total number of days required with students: 63-78

Number of hours per week with students: 15-30

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Number of students under your direct supervision: 18-22 (varsity), plus evaluation/oversight of jv program

Equipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory: Yes

Duties: Attend coaches meetings, practice session, matches as scheduled. Organize and conduct practices and games, providing Athletic Director with copies of practice schedules and plans. Assist and mentor the junior varsity coach. Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Keep accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Assist in developing a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget). Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Maintain WIAA coaching standards and work toward becoming a master coach. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Maintain contact with the 7-12 grade coaches regarding program philosophies, goals, etc.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials: Washington State Teaching Credentials Preferred. Current First Aid/CPR card required.

Education: 4-year degree preferred.

Experience: Previous soccer playing experience at the high school varsity level/comparable community program required, college and/or professional level preferred.

Previous soccer coaching experience at the high school varsity level/comparable community program required

NSCAA National License or USSF B License or higher preferred

Personal Qualities: The ability to work with student/athletes and their parents in a professional manner. The successful candidate will work to instill the highest desirable ideals of character and ensure that the welfare of each student/athlete is always held in the highest regard. The candidate should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player. The ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the sport/activity is highly valued. Must b e able to consistently meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.

 

SALARY

$4288-5938, DOE. Additional stipend for post-season play (1% of total salary per day of additional practice/competition due to district/regional and state playoffs).

 

 

All new employees must complete fingerprinting and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00
