WEST VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
NAME OF POSITION: ASST. BOY’S TENNIS (JV) COACH
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist the head coach as directed in teaching and directing various tennis skills and activities in practice situations, as well as supervising and coaching at home/away matches on school buses, vans and at match sites.
THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Boys Tennis Head Coach, Athletic Director and Principal.

Dates Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): February 27-Mid May (Spring Sports Season)
Weeks per season/year: 11-13
Total number of days required with students: 66-78
Number of hours per week with students: 15-35
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Number of students under your supervision: 15-30

Equipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory: Yes
Duties: Attend coaches meetings, parents meetings, practice sessions, matches as assigned. Organize and conduct practices and matches under the direction of the head coach and provide practice schedules and specific, written details of practice organization to the coach and Athletic Director. Keep accurate attendance records for all athletes at practices/ matches. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director and head coach. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Keep accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Develop a budget with the head coach for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget). Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Learn the NFHS, WIAA and league tennis rules. Maintain WIAA coaching standards/work toward becoming a “preferred” level coach.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Credentials: Current First Aid/CPR card required, good driving record required.
Education: 4-year degree preferred.
Experience: Previous tennis playing experience at the high school level preferred. Previous tennis coaching experience in high school/comparable community programspreferred.
Personal Qualities: The ability to work with student/athletes and their parents in a professional manner. The successful candidate will work to instill the highest desirable ideals of character and ensure that the welfare of each student/athlete is always held in the highest regard. The candidate should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player.
SALARY
$2144-$2969 (Group 5), DOE. There is no post-season stipend with this position.
All new employees must complete fingerprinting and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00
