Salary: $12.12 per hour, until successful completion of 6 month probation, then $13.47 per hour. (These are 2007-08 figures, 2008-09 figures will be slightly higher, due to the unknown cost of living adjustment).

POSITION: Braille Paraprofessional

Primary Responsibility: Provide training and instruction to visually impaired students as outlined by the vision specialist, provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), provide assistance with orientation and mobility training, routine clerical duties, material preparation for the teaching/learning process and other non-instructional duties as designated by the classroom teacher.

Directly Responsible To: Classroom teacher, building principal and Special Services Director

Responsibilities:

1. Assist classroom teachers with the following duties:

• Braille instruction

• Translating assignments from and into Braille

• Assist students in the classroom setting.

• Assist students with orientation, mobility and personal hygiene as needed

• Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher

2. Supervise students in library, bus loading, hallways, field trips and lunchroom.

3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Previous experience working with visually impaired children and Braille instruction preferred.

Personal Qualities:

All new employees must complete fingerprint and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00
