Graduating Seniors of the Class of 2017 

There is no better time than celebrating high school graduation. We had 312 graduating seniors this year! I want to thank all of you, no matter your role in the West Valley School District, for all you have done each and every day in support of these graduating seniors. We are very proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2017, and they could not have done it without the support of everyone involved.


Just take a look at our seniors’ successes:


1. Our seniors have indicated the following pathways:

  • 4 year College/University (133 students, 43%)
  • 2 year Community College (91 students, 29%)
  • Career Technical school (19 students, 6%) 

‚ÄčTotaling 78%! And 41 of our seniors are first in their family to attend college!

  • Military (13 students, 4%)
  • Workforce (49 students, 16%)
  • Other (7 students, 2%)

2. Our four top 1% West Valley seniors are Brienn Aman, Kailea Aman, Lindsey Evers, and Timothy Ferrin. 


3. Forty-eight seniors received the Washington State Honors Award.


4. Joe Doria received the Congressional Award for Initiative, Service and Achievement, and Elly Teske received the Congressional High School Art Award. 


5. The West Valley Principal’s award was given to Alexa Burns, Cierra Mallory, and Elly Teske.


6. JROTC top awards were given to 3 seniors. Martin Sample received the Congressional Nomination to the US Air Force Academy. Joey Bird received the US Marine Corps NROTC Scholarship. Lindsey Evers received the US Army ROTC Scholarship. Cadet of the year went to Cadet Captain Leo Soto.


7. Colton Moen won first in Regionals and placed in the top 16 of the state with the skills USA Cabinetmaking. 


8. Thirty-four students were awarded the Washington State Seal of Biliteracy: Brienn Aman, Kailea Aman, Hailey Biegler, Joseph Bird, Braden Clement, Trenton Crafton, Emma Deblasio, Gianna Dimeo, Cole Donegan,  Henry Eaton, Allison Farabee, Tim Ferrin, Kelsey Hedrick, Alexis Ibarra, Joel Lee, Brittany Little, Elizabeth Lowe, Carsten Martin, Carlee Martin, Tanner McKinney, Morgan Metz, Eric Moreno, Keiley Munsterman, John Opfer, Diego Quintana, Michelle Ridd, Eric Rodriguez, Megan Salset, Rhea Shetty, Rayna Tilley, Tatum Verbrugge, Isabella Vickers, and Oliver Woodall.


9. West Valley Dollars For Scholars awarded 56 students scholarships this year totaling $59,000. Since 1995 when DFS began, a total of $921,955 has been awarded in scholarships.


10. An estimated dollar amount awarded in scholarships to date is over $2,055,981 to be awarded this coming fall. This number does not include the renewable scholarships our students will receive!


11. This year we had 7 foreign exchange students from 5 countries: Brazil, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, and Thailand.


We anticipate great things for these young adults and look forward to their unique contributions to society! Go get ‘em, class of 2017!
