Winners announced for 44th Annual ESD 105 High School Art Show

"Junie B." - Chalk pastel artwork by WVHS 12th grader Elly Teske

Congratulations to West Valley’s Elly Teske, who won both a regional award as well as a CWU scholarship for her entry titled “Junie B.” in this year’s 44th Annual ESD 105 High School Art Show.

Eight pieces by high school artists from south central Washington were chosen as standouts among the 80 entries in this year’s ESD 105 Regional High School Art Show. They will advance on to OSPI’s statewide Superintendent’s High School Art Show later this spring in Olympia. Seven of the students were presented CWU scholarship awards by David Bieloh, associate professor of graphic design at CWU.

Jurors for this year’s regional show were Professor Gregg Schlanger, who chairs the art department at Central Washington University, and David Lynx, who is the director of the Larson Gallery at Yakima Valley College. Entries were judged on the basis of mastery of the medium used, composition, and creativity, without information regarding the name of the school or teacher.

Senior Elly Teske’s recognition this year makes this the third consecutive year that one of teacher Grant Johnston’s students has had an entry advance to the OSPI statewide show. West Valley has had six entries advance during the past six years.
