Celebrating Unsung Hero Minerva Delgado

This month, Minerva Delgado, a West Valley parent, was honored by the Department of Early Learning's (DEL) Strengthening Families Washington division and recognized by Seattle’s Child magazine. Nominees are parents or caregivers who demonstrate strength, courage and empathy in their communities. Our Family Engagement Coordinator, Minerva Pardo, who has witnessed Ms. Delgado show tremendous support for her children’s education, nominated Minerva Delgado.

For the past three years, Ms. Delgado has participated in countless Family Engagement activities, attended ESL classes that are held three times a week, and attended monthly Parent Education Classes as well as monthly Parent Nights. Ms. Delgado supports her children to be bilingual, emphasizing the value of literacy in both Spanish and English. She has participated in Spanish reading groups for parents and their children to model literacy and a love of reading.

She has shown commitment in her involvement, all with the goal of increasing her knowledge of parenting and child development to support her children’s education.

Ms. Delgado models a positive attitude toward life-long learning. She is a great role model for her children and for parents who participate in our Family Engagement activities. Minerva Delgado is truly an unsung hero! Thank you, Ms. Delgado for being a shining example for your children and all of us!

Ms. Pardo and Ms. Delgado attended the awards ceremony in Olympia where Ms. Delgado was honored. Read more of her story on the Seattle’s Child site, here.
