Collaboration Cubbies at West Valley High School

West Valley High School has installed flat screen television sets in an area of the library to encourage student collaboration on project-based learning activities.

Collaboration is one of the 4 C's of Blended Learning, which also include Creativity, Communication, and Critical Thinking. HS Library Assistant Linda Mutch is working with two students from English teacher Mark Burns' class to develop a podcast from the input of several students at the Collaboration Cubbie.

We continue to be excited about the many ways teachers in the West Valley School District are using Blending Learning to accommodate learners in creating individualized learning environments. The use of Collaboration Cubbies at WVHS is just one of the many ways teachers emphasize collaboration in learning.

Great job, West Valley High School!

Station Rotation at Apple Valley Elementary

1st Grade Teacher Brooke Scott uses the Blended Learning strategy known as Station Rotation while she checks for student understanding and provides the necessary monitoring needed to make adjustments based on individual learning needs. Great job, Brooke!

Examples like these are going on every hour, every day in classrooms led by our outstanding teachers who really are providing a blended learning environment to students.

West Valley’s aerospace apprentice program is making the news. This year, 3 seniors are earning apprenticeship hours in a collaboration with local businesses that integrates this opportunity into the school day.

Osborne is working on his 2,000-hour apprenticeship that he can put toward a journeyman. The journeyman status will allow him to apply to work at any machining shop. Keep up the great work, Osborne!
