It’s School Psychology Awareness Week. Did you know that each school in the West Valley School District has a psychologist available to children? Mental health is an important part of all our lives, and students are no exception. We know that children learn best when they are healthy and supported and that their mental health is directly linked to their learning and development.

Because our schools' mission is to offer children the very best learning environment and to support kids, our psychologists play an integral role in helping children thrive.

If you have questions about your child’s wellbeing or the services available, don’t hesitate to reach out to your school. And, thank to all our fine psychologists whose daily work improves our students’ wellbeing. We appreciate you!

We’ve been seeing fine examples of our ENGAGE - Blended Learning Initiative in the West Valley School District. We deployed Chromebooks to every 5th and 6th Grade student at the start of the 2016-17 school year and will deploy them to every 7th and 8th grader during the third week of January, 2017. Our plan is to deploy Chromebooks to every 5th - 12th grade student in West Valley School District at the start of the 2017-18 school year, next fall. These are exciting times!

Students in Ms. Khan's class are working toward Microsoft MOS Certification. She has already had three 7th graders earn this ranking, and we are not even at the midpoint of the 2016-17 school year. Students are also mastering Google Applications as well as taking a course on Digital Literacy and Digital Citizenship. We saw 100% student engagement throughout the lesson!

At West Valley Middle School in Ms. Jenna Stratton's 5th grade math class, students are learning to write code in order to develop computer gaming concepts. This process is critical in learning problem-solving skills and logic patterns in coding. Again, we saw 100% student engagement.

Other examples of the coding sequence that students are learning in 5th Grade.

Great work teachers and students! Keep up this important work!

Our next meeting is fast approaching. Join us Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30pm in the Junior High Library.

These informal gatherings are a great way to come together to learn about the district's programs. During this meeting, CTE Director Chris Nesmith will present on the outstanding learning opportunities for our students including Microsoft MOS Certification and our Machining Program, which is aligned to Boeing's prep program.

They are also an opportunity to discuss important issues affecting our district. One of the District’s 5 Goals is Continual Improvement--your voice matters, and we invite you to come participate. A light dinner will be served.
