West Valley High School Senior Freida Raj Earns Bronze Congressional Award

U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse awarded the Congressional Award Bronze Medal to Freida Raj. Bronze, silver, and gold medals are earned by students who have completed a certain number of tasks in four categories: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition or exploration. Freida Raj is the second West Valley High School student to receive a medal from the Congressional Award program this year.

Raj began efforts toward her medal during her sophomore year of high school. To name a few, she has volunteered at a local hospital, tutored fellow students, participated on the swim and track teams, and wrote for the Yakima Herald-Republic’s Unleashed program to further her career development. “I do want to continue this,” said Raj. “I’m halfway through with my silver medal.”

Raj plans to enter college in the fall and hopes to eventually study medicine. Congratulations, Freida! We’re so proud of you!
