All of the West Valley elementary schools and West Valley Middle School are now taking nominations for the Program for Advanced Learning (PAL). This program offers challenging and rigorous curriculum to students that are highly capable academically and have demonstrated excellent academic skills . In order to qualify for this program students must generally score at the 90th percentile or higher on a standardized academic achievement test and at the 95th percentile or higher on an individual intelligence test. Self-contained classes are offered for grades three and four in the Program for Advanced Learning. These classes are held at Wide Hollow Elementary School . At West Valley Middle School fifth and sixth grade students are provided opportunities for advanced learning through the Advanced Classes Program.
Testing for qualification will take place on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Wide Hollow Elementary for current second and third grade students. Testing for current fourth or fifth grade students will take place at West Valley Middle School . Teachers and parents are encouraged to recommend students for testing. Parents of children who are currently in second grade should receive a letter in the mail. They need to return the registration form included in that letter directly to the PAL program at Wide Hollow if they wish to have their child tested . If either parents or teachers would like to have a child/student tested for the fourth grade class please contact your school’s principal, or Terry Faletto at Wide Hollow Elementary, 965-2023. Parents or teachers that would like to have a child/student tested for the fifth or sixth grade program should contact West Valley Middle School , 972-5700.
